The lifestyle to live the longest | Dr. Michael Greger | TEDxBoston
NOTE FROM TED: While some viewers may find this helpful as a complementary approach, please do not look to this talk for medical advice. This talk only represents the speaker’s personal views and interpretation of diet, health, and disease. Claims around the role of diet in Alzheimer’s treatment and prevention warrant further scientific investigation. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here:
The good news is that we have tremendous power over our health destiny and longevity; the majority of premature death and disability risk is preventable with a healthy enough diet and lifestyle. Even just basic, common-sense healthy behaviors can mean living a decade longer: not smoking, not being obese, regular exercise, and more fruits and vegetables. And it’s never too late. It’s never too late to stop smoking, to move more, or to start eating healthier. Man, this guy doesn’t present very well – and he starts off by referring to the debunked blue zones – not very impressed!
Yeah, right. Being vegan and nutritents and vitamins deficient it’s good for you, said no-one but activist scientists. You go vegan, I will eat my meat in moderation, like everything else
My LDL was 130. Total cholesterol 199. My doctor said my LDL “was slightly high, but total cholesterol was still within a safe range.”
I knew a vegan diet might have been better, but it wasn’t improving my cholesterol level. Of course my doctor said high cholesterol was hereditary, so there was nothing I could do. I refused to accept that. And love to do research. That’s when I found Dr Greger’s research based whole food plant based diet. That was three months ago. My cholesterol is a work in progress. LDL is 111. Total cholesterol is 150. I was worried that my “good cholesterol” was being reduced, but after listening to Dr Greger’s talk on that, I understand that HDL can be just as deadly. So don’t worry.
I am so glad that this knowledge is an option. I just wish people weren’t so set in their ways. Talking to others is like banging my head on the wall. Oh well. Maybe in time. Baby steps.
How to look like you’re not aging? Dye your hair and beard.
I’m 51, been vegetarian/vegan since I was 16. My blood work, bp, cholesterol A1c, all look the way it did when I was 21, if not better. I walk miles each day and strength train, too. Aging feels phenomenal when you’re WFPB vegan. 🙂
