Cardio or strength training: what a physical therapist would choose

There is a clear winner…

The benefits of strength training are hard to beat ✅

This is by no means saying cardio and aerobic training are bad- it has its time, place and benefits☝🏽

But muscle strengthening is key for daily life: for joint health, bone health, brain health, metabolic rate, disease risk and SO many things 👀

Muscle weakness can leave you susceptible to osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, chronic disease, dementia, loss of independence and more 😔

There are TONS of different ways to strengthen your muscles. Here are some examples of how I prioritize my muscle strength and work on it nearly every day ✅

This is by no means recommending each of these separate exercises. Everyone’s strength training g journey will look different based on fitness level, current strength, presence/absence of pain, mobility and more ⚠️

What are your favorite ways to strength train?

Agree…I need to build muscle but I hate the gym..im 73 and would love some of your videos to incorporate these things without thr equipment except for dumbbells or kettlebells. Now we know where you get those great legs,😅

As a PT you should know it’s not one vs another. You need both.
